Like every year the Forbes magazine has published the ranking of the highest paid models. For the second year in a row Kendall Jenner, with his 22.5 million dollars, won the gold medal for the highest paid model of 2018. Already last year he had beaten the competition stealing the scepter to the wonderful Gisele Bündchen, on the podium for over 15 years.
Out of the podium, we find the super Gisele Bündchen, who shares the fifth position with colleague Cara Delevigne. Both this year, they earned 10 million dollars. The sisters Hadid, Gigi, and Bella receive respectively the seventh and the eighth position. The first with 9.5 million dollars earned, the second 8.5 million. Also, the Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls has received 8.5 million dollars this year.
Virtual Models
Most brands require a model to sell their clothes, however, recently, brands are starting to use social media influencers to sell their clothes.
French fashion has come up with the usage of virtual models to advertise their collections. The pictures usually consist of real-life places as well as, the virtual model advertising the clothes.
The girl you see in the picture is called Lil Miquela on Instagram.
Brands tend to captivate their audience with a well-known social media influencer, that has a lot of followers.
The reason as to why these companies use social media platforms (such as Instagram), is due to their clients. This means that most individuals who are using their products are young people that are more active on social media.
Nowadays, customers look up to their favorite influencers.
As soon as their 'idols' wear a new product they are encouraged to have the same products as them. This
makes brands want to use social media influencers to advertise their clothes.
Olivier Rousteing created a so-called “virtual army” that consists of three virtual models to advertise his own clothes. These virtual models have a pretty big audience on Instagram, with around 8 million followers.
In my personal opinion, I think that they use virtual models to advertise their clothes because the brand would have to pay less.
In a lot of clothing advertisements, the models don’t show their faces. That makes the company pay less.
Besides this, virtual models, are not an exception. They are nonliving humans. I also think that it’s a smart way of selling your clothes through social media.
