The Lion, The Eagle, and The Fox

Once upon a time in the distant past where animals roamed the world, there was a Lion and an Eagle fighting over who was the ruler of the Earth. “I, clearly, am the ruler of the Earth because of my great bravery and strength” declared the Lion, “Nonsense,” replied the Eagle, “I am the brave one and even better, I am the smartest one”. The two strolled all around the forest for hours and hours arguing about who was the ruler of the Earth. At first, the statements were true but soon it got out of hand, for example, once the Eagle claimed that he could see the future because he had such a great eye, the Lion also claimed that he can lift 60 extremely heavy rocks without feeling any pain at all because of his super strength. All the animals were tired of their arguments, but not as much as the Fox. The Fox had said lots of lies, however, none were as fake as that! One day the Fox got tired of their constant fighting, he had to make a plan.

The next day the Fox went up to the Lion and the Eagle in the middle of their morning debate, “Hello there my friends, I see that you are having a quarrel.” greeted the Fox, “Yes, we are because this odd Eagle says that he is the best when I am” claimed the Lion. The eagle gave the Lion a deadly scowl, “Well I have a way of solving your problem” replied the Fox, “You do!” exclaimed both the Lion and the Eagle, “Yes” continued the Fox, “why don’t you have a race, the winner will be the ruler of the world.” The eagle and the Lion agreed not suspecting that the Fox had a trick up his sleeve. “Eagle, you know, that since you have such great eyesight you would be able to do the race at night, and Lion because of your great senses you would be able to figure out where the end is?” after Fox’s persuasive statement the three agreed that the race would be tomorrow night just before dawn. The night before the race the Fox snuck out to the course and placed tons of honey on the course and put a net not far from the honey patch.

That night the Lion and the Eagle were at the starting line stretching till the Fox showed up. “What are you doing here?” asked the Eagle surprised, the Fox responded surprisingly “What! You didn’t know that I would be in the race too!” The Eagle said, “Of course, I can see the future I am so sorry I just forgot, oh what’s that, I see, in the future, I will win!” The Lion sniggered and murmured “Yes, you will win, a ticket to prison after I win”. “Racers, take your places the race will start shortly” reported the elephant. The Lion, the Eagle, and the Fox took their places. “On your marks, Get set, GO!” the elephant blew his trunk. The Eagle and the Lion took off like a bullet, however, the Fox took off as a slow walk. The Lion and the Eagle laughed and shouted “LOSER!”. The Lion was up ahead by a few paces but within two seconds he was stuck in the huge patch of honey. The Eagle whizzed straight past the Lion and right into a net. The Lion and the Eagle struggled and struggled not understanding what had happened. The Fox strolled past the two and laughed shouting “LOSER!” and walked off. Soon after the Fox was up ahead, however. it was all about to change. The Lion picked up the scent of honey, he didn’t know where it came from, but its scent was making the Lion crazy, it reminded of his mother’s homemade honey pie. He decided to lie down, but as soon as he touched the ground he felt the stickiness hit his fur. He soon realized that he was stuck in honey. He stayed still for a moment, thinking, he realized his dream had come true. He wanted to stay there forever, however, something struck him, he realized that he had a race to win, he licked his legs and his body finally getting out of the mess. The Eagle himself had been busy he had pecked right through the rope till he was free, the two agreed to finish the race together. They shot off like a bullet. In no time they caught up to the Fox, the Lion ran straight over him while the Eagle bit his tail. The sun was rising and the crowds were gathering around the track, they saw the Lion and the Eagle walk towards the finishing line, together, as a team. The crowd was stunned, the two weren’t arguing, but walking together making sure that they weren’t overtaking one another. The pair crossed the finishing line together. They were both proud until the Fox remarked, “You fools, now you will never know who will be the king of the world”. That sentenced struck the Lion and the Eagle straight away. They had this strange feeling that they possibly never had. The feeling was care. After a long pause the fox interrupted, “Hello, this is the time you quarrel till the end of time!” The two were awakened from their dreams “I.. I don’t want to...” said the Lion with a tone of sadness “Win?” continued the Eagle. “Yeah” responded the Lion. “Me too, I don’t deserve to win.”. The crowd was touched, suddenly a cow shouted: “Why don’t you share?”. The rest of the crowd started chanting, quiet at first, gradually getting louder “Share! Share! Share! Share!”. The Lion and the Eagle felt their heart rise up to the sky. Finally, the Eagle said, “Share? Why don’t I get the sky and you get the jungle since, you know, I can fly.”, the Lion responded, “Yes that’s a great idea”. They waited for the crowd to quiet down. The Lion stepped on a stone and roared, “Welcome to your new king of the jungle!”, “And,” continued the Eagle while soaring up to the sky, “Welcome to your new king of the sky!”. The crowd cheered and cheered to their new kings. As for the fox he was thrown in prison.
